ABOUT GREATER DC CARES
Greater DC Cares is the region’s leading coordinator of volunteerism and corporate philanthropy. For more than 18 years we have harnessed
the energy, skills, goods and talent of the region to magnify the impact of social change efforts. We engage all community assets including
volunteers, pro-bono consultants, trained nonprofit board leaders, and donated services and goods.
In this way, volunteers just like you improve the health of our region. Together, we serve more than 300 nonprofits and schools and connect
them with 60,000+ hours of services and skills each year. We conservatively estimate that these efforts infuse more than $4 million worth
of labor and expertise into the region annually!
In 2007 alone we:
- Developed and managed 1,000 volunteer projects throughout the region;
- Provided skilled volunteers that helped 115 nonprofits with technology, fundraising and human resources projects;
- Built three playgrounds for children living in low-income communities;
- Helped provide about 36,000 meals to people who are homeless or living with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses;
- Lent free tools to more than 200 local nonprofits through our tool lending library, The Community Tool Chest; and
- Trained and placed more than 100 corporate executives on boards of directors.
